Charles Gordon1

     Charles Gordon was born circa 1640 in Pitlurg, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was the son of Robert Gordon and Katherine Burnet.1 Charles Gordon died in 1698 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Died intestate, with his brother Thomas being appointed administrator of his estate.1 He was one of the original founders of the East Jersey colony. There are several examples of letters written by him to relatives in Scotland.2

     Isobel Forbes was born on 16 October 1548 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of William Forbes and Elizabeth Keith. Isobel Forbes married John Gordon, son of John Gordon and Janet Ogilvie, in 1567 in Aberdeenshire. Isobel Forbes died on 11 September 1600 in Aberdeenshire at age 51.

Robert Gordon of Straloch
     Robert Gordon was born on 14 September 1580 in Pitlurg, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of John Gordon and Isobel Forbes. Robert Gordon was educated at Aberdeen University.2 He married Katherine Irvine, daughter of Sir Alexander Irvine, in 1608. He was known as "Robert Gordon of Straloch". He was Laird of Straloch and later of Pitlurg following the death of his brother. He was famous as a cartographer late in life by contributing to Blaeu's atlas of Scotland, published in 1654. He reputedly had eleven sons and six daughters and is listed in Scotlands "Dictionary of National Biography". Some of his maps are kept in the National Library as well.2 Robert Gordon died on 18 August 1661 in Pitlurg, Aberdeenshire, at age 80.2
